As the world seeks new energy sources and taps into supplies deep below the ocean surface, the offshore industry has become even more critical to the global economy. Robust electrification components are critical to the successful operation of exploration and production rigs and vessels. Offshore loading cranes, process cranes, and deck handling equipment all require power, signals, and data and demand electrification components that are particularly reliable and safe in these exacting and hazardous conditions. Energy and data transmission systems must work effectively for long hours with minimal maintenance and must withstand salt water ocean environments. Many are located in hazardous areas where equipment must comply with rigorous quality and applicable safety standards such as ATEX, IECEx, and UL.
Conductix-Wampfler has considerable expertise in applying products to the offshore and marine industries, gained over decades of work in the field. Among our solutions are:
Slip Ring Assemblies - to transmit power, control signals, and data to all types of rotating cranes such as loading cranes, process cranes, and deck handling equipment. Our slip rings can accommodate a variety of operating envelopes and are often supplied with “hazardous location” enclosures. Enclosures can be equipped with air passages and pneumatic swivels for compressed air needs and can be fitted with internal heat strips and vents as required. We also offer fiber optic rotary joints for more complex systems, either used alone or in conjunction with slip ring assemblies.
Motor-Driven Reels - for product loading systems that require vent gas collection, motorized reels can be employed to pay out and store vent gas connection hoses.
Energy Guiding Chains - larger projects for pipe-handling equipment or on Floating Production Storage and Off-loading (FPSO) systems may require energy chains to guide the cables and hoses.
Festoon Systems - bridge cranes can be supplied with power by festoon systems that carry electrical cables or pneumatic/hydraulic hoses as necessary.
Spring-Driven Reels - handle cabling on crane booms and bridge cranes.
Buffers - provide protection against collisions from moving equipment.
